What is a wholegrain?

Whole-grains encompass just as the word states - the whole grain.

Whole-grains encompass just as the word states - the whole grain.

Consuming these most of the time instead of refined grains can make a huge difference in overall health.

The whole grain is made up of three elements; •The outer bran layer which contains most of the fibre. •The inner germ layer which is rich in nutrients and antioxidants. •The endosperm which contains most of the starch.

Refined grains are stripped of the bran and germ layers, leaving only the endosperm which provides starch. Ridding the grain of all the good stuff.

Choosing whole-grains ensures that you’re getting a complete package of dietary fibre, protein, antioxidants, an array of vitamins and phytochemicals as opposed to the refined type which only provide starch.
